In-depth review of the Academic All-America® awards program set to begin soon

by Mitch Blankespoor – Wilmington College, Director of Athletic Communications  //  CSC Academic All-America® Core Committee Vice Chair  @mitch_blanko

As detailed in the April 360, the process of reviewing the Academic All-America core awards program will be underway soon with direction from CSC’s Executive Board of Directors.

The goal of this prestigious and long-running awards program remains the same as it was when it started in 1952 with one football team — to annually select the best and most outstanding student-athletes for Academic All-America recognition, and to position the program for even greater national exposure and relevance.

In order to enhance and elevate this important program, the award must be solid in its processes and supported by its members. Challenges and opportunities related to the following areas will be considered:
  • Timing of the program – Nominations, selections and announcements
  • Nomination process and balloting – Efficiency of process, size of the ballot
  • Voting and selection process – Roles of committee members, screening committees, membership votes
  • Levels of recognition – Honor roll, Academic All-District, Academic All-America, Academic All-American of the Year
  • Academic All-American of the Year selection processes
  • Policies, procedures and eligibility requirements – review current policies and procedures to align with the overarching goals of the program

CSC members are invited to submit ideas for how to improve this prestigious program in 2023-24. Recommendations and rationale should be sent to Mitch Blankespoor (mitch_blankespoor@wilmington.edu) and staff liaison Laurie Bollig (laurie@cscommunicators.com).
