CSC Women Mission Statement
CSC Women is a subdivision of the College Sports Communicators, dedicated to serving the women in the athletics communications/media relations field.

CSC Women aims to encourage, empower and educate, while providing a positive and united presence for women in our field, both veterans and newcomers, and serving as their collective voice. We seek to act as an advocate for our constituents by encouraging diversity, promoting positive work environments and supporting equal opportunities for all in our profession, while increasing the representation of women.

Values

  • SUPPORT – We will aim to provide support and assistance to women in media relations with an emphasis on professional development, mentoring and networking.
  • LEADERSHIP – We aim to not only take a proactive role in the advancement of women in the future of our field, but also seek to place women in leadership roles within CSC to better represent our membership as a whole.
  • EMPOWERMENT – We aim to provide strategies for promoting, encouraging and fostering success in the media relations field and beyond. We also will work to have the professional efforts of our members and others who support women and women's athletics recognized through organizational awards.
  • ADVOCACY – We aim to advocate for women's issues within the media relations field by providing positive messages, facilitating panels and discussion forums, developing suitable strategies to deal with those issues, and, when appropriate, presenting them to the CSC board/membership as a whole.

The CSC Women Wind Down informal Zoom chats have been moved to a Monday Meetup. CSC Women hosts an informal Zoom monthly chat on a Monday in the late afternoon/early evening. The time is 8 PM (ET) / 7 PM (CT) / 6 PM (MT) / 5 PM (PT).

Host session(s) and a social event ath the annual convention
At each annual CSC summer convention, CSC Women sponsors a professional development panel/session or sessions, identifying the topics and the presenters to speak to issues relevant to females in the athletic communications profession. Additionally, CSC Women hosts informal social gatherings at the convention.

Participating in CSC's year-round professional development/continuing education programming
Throughout the year, CSC Women members contribute to our monthly webinar programming, provide professional development articles/blogs for the membership, and post on CSC and CSC Women communications platforms.

History of CSC Women

The long-time CoSIDA group Female Athletic Media Relations Executive (FAME) re-branded in 2017 to WoSIDA (Women Sports Information Directors of America/Women of CoSIDA).

During the spring and summer of 2017, the group worked to develop a new logo and updated mission statement and a goals and value statement.

"It was important for us to change our name to be more relevant to our stakeholders (CoSIDA members and in particular, women in CoSIDA). When we rebranded from FAME to WoSIDA, it revived our group, increased our visibility and accelerated our growth.

Our goals are to continue engagement in the digital space, sponsor CoSIDA webinars, and have a presence throughout the year leading up to the annual convention. We welcome all CoSIDA members, male or female, to join WoSIDA. Members contribute to the growth and future success of our committee. It is a great way to serve women in CoSIDA at a higher level."
- Chevonne Mansfield, current Howard University Executive Senior Associate AD/SWA and former WoSIDA chair

"Many members of CoSIDA were not aware of what FAME was and by changing the name to WoSIDA, our group has a better brand identity. It also serves as a better connection with CoSIDA. Our goal is to serve the women in the athletic communications profession. We want to encourage, educate and empower our female members."
- Diane Nordstrom, Wisconsin (retired) and CSC Hall of Fame Class of 2018
